Welcome the Cowhouse Catahoulas! The dogs call Burnet County, Texas "home." Being located near the gorgeous Highland Lakes of central Texas, the dogs have plenty of rough terrain in these parts to keep things interesting, for sure. I hope you enjoy your stay. Please check back often for updates as The Owner/Breeder maintains this website herself. This means that I try to keep things updated as they happen! I pride myself in breeding and producing the best all-around Catahoula possible. My goal in breeding these Catahoulas dogs is to combine working ability with correct conformation, and desirable coat colors ranging from classic leopards to striking solid coated dogs. Please understand, I am NOT a highly experienced hog hunter... the focus is cattle-minded dogs that can cross over to hog hunters and raccoon hunters, and baypen dogs when needed. Pedigrees are important. You will find a range of familiar bloodlines in this kennel. I put a dog's working instinct FIRST in my program, then conformation and structure, then temperment. It has been my experience that it is easier to make a good working dog more "user-friendly" than it is to make a "idle" catahoula (without working drive) want to work. The main goal for 2008 is to get ready for the third generation of dogs bred by or co-bred by Cowhouse. Then to get back to a reasonable show/trial schedule. I will not be making every show known to catahoula admirers. I try to make all Texas events and a few out-of-state events when it is a workable endeavor. There is an "Open-Door" policy here, in regards to Catahoula related questioning. If you don't find what you are looking for on the Cowhouse Site, email Janie to inform her of your questions related to catahoula inquiry needs. She answers most requests within 24 hours. She can furnish an extensive list of references on our dogs and kennel, available at your request. As always, you may contact her at cowhousebreeder@yahoo.com to "talk Dog." | |
